Change Master Checklist

When we are working with managers we are often asked why do some people seem to always be better positioned to deal with change at work? Why do these people seem not only to be part of the change, rather than its victim, but also come through the change more positively than many of their colleagues?

Well we can now give you a small insight into why. The checklist below is a summary that captures the Changer Master’s mind-set. Have a (truthful) go at answering the questions, two points if you really are strong on the question, one point if you moderately focus on it, no points for not really, or not at all.

  1. I keep a record of my accomplishments

  2. I keep an up to date CV

  3. I work at my communication skills

  4. I constantly look to update my network and manage my contacts

  5. I do whatever I can to become indispensable to my organisation

  6. I constantly work to further my professional education and training

  7. I work hard at getting along with people and having a reputation for being helpful, friendly and supportive

  8. I read all the trade press, broadsheet business pages and other relevant media to keep up to date

  9. I work at deepening my point of view about how our industry is developing, and the likely changes it is going through

  10. I manage by income/debt ratio to maintain a degree of independence

  11. I take responsibility for my career and my current position

How Did You Do?

18-22 points – bring the change on!
12-17 points – you are suggestible to change
6-11 points - you find change hard work
0-5 points – leave me alone!
